The exhibition Vera Fotografia (True Photography) at Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome displays over 250 photographs by the Italian photographer Gianni Berengo Gardin.

Gardin (1930) is one of the most prominent and enduring photojournalists of Italy. He tells the story of political and social changes that have marked the history of the country, as well as providing images of life on the streets and accidental encounters.

The exhibition includes photographs from a number of in-depth series like Lunatic Asylums, which explores the dramatic situation of mental hospitals in Italy, and Gypsies, a series on the life of Gypsies in Italy, which is the result of Gardin’s stay in three Gypsy camps.
